Consider how prayer enriches us in Jesus. By way of illustration, let’s think of prayer with a business concept called leveraging. When leveraging someone else’s money you go to a bank and you get a loan. You then take that money to put down on a house that you could not otherwise afford. Or when you want a car that you initially can’t afford if you leverage someone else’s wealth, get a loan, you are able to buy that vehicle from the supplier.

When we go to the father in prayer, we are leveraging his power, richness, and authority over all things in this world. We need to pray to god to ask, in faith, for him to do things with us we should not be doing alone. We may ask, in faith, for him to shake up this world in such a way that it brings about a result that without him would not happen[1]. Moreover, praying is about recognizing the need for his help, giving ourselves over to Him to allow him to enrich our lives so that we can be enriched spiritually[2].  In contrast, we tend to lean on our own understanding or pray only to fulfilling the desires of our own heart[3].

Overall, Prayer is key because it exercises our dependance on the one true God. It shows our dependence and makes us dependent on the power, richness, and authority of God. For in our dependance on the richness of God through prayer we are truly rich!
